William Dodson Givan III (1836 - 1883), son of James Madison and Mellona Givan.   He was a Methodist minister and served as a chaplain for the Union Army during the Civil War.   At Shiloh, he was promoted to Lieutenant for bravery on the battlefield.   While stationed to guard the bridge at Munfordville, he met Eliza Carden (1836 - 1870), and they were married in 1866.   Her father was David M. Carden (1792 - 1878), son of Reuben and Ann (Massie) Carden.)
