Mattie Joyce and Steve "Stevie" were killed together in an automobile accident. Her husband George had enlisted in the ARMY and Mattie had taken him to the bus station. She was returning home when the accident happened. The other vehicle was a dump truck with a DUI driver. Son Kenny was in the vehicle and was seriously injured, but survived.
