From Rootsweb - Sandi Gorin "Passes After Useful Life. Miss Nettie B.Depp, whose passing we noted last week, passed to the Beyond last Wednesday afternoon, after a lingering illness, which was hopeless from the beginning. "She was born November 21, 1874, a daughter of the late Hon. John B. Depp, who at one time represented Barren County in the Legislature. Her mother was a daughter of the late Isaac T. Reneau, the famous Christian minister. "Miss Nettie spent her life as a teacher, largely in her native county, but for a number of years was Principal of the High School in Scottsville. She was elected County School Superintendent of Barren county, and served with credit and satisfaction. "Her parents died several years ago, but she is survived by one brother and two sisters: Mr. T. H. Depp and Mrs. Lillie B. Matthews, both of this county, Mrs. W. W. Rowland of Hobart, Okla. "Miss Depp has been a devoted member of the Church of Christ since she was baptized at the age of thirteen, by the late Elder Uberto Wright. Her entire life was spent in educational work, and she had a tremendous influence for good, wherever she was known. Perhaps no other woman in the county has had a greater influence for the uplift of the people. "Funeral services were held at Refuge Church at Eighty Eight, Thursday afternoon, the large audience of Friends from Horse Cave, Bowling Green, Scottsville and other points who attended the funeral evidencing the high regard in which she was held. The crowd was estimated at more than 1500, and the services were held under the shade of the trees, so that all could hear, as the house only held a small fraction of the crowd. We noted teachers from Bowling Green and Scottsville schools, as well as from Glasgow and many other points. "The funeral was conducted by Elders Allen Phy of this place, Emmett Creacy of Horse Cave, and W. H. Allen, also of Horse Cave lead the song service." Refuge Cemetery - Nettie B.
