State Journal-Register, The (Springfield, IL) - Wednesday, November 15, 2006 Deceased Name: Emmons Isenberg PONTIAC - Emmons "Gabby" "Ike" Isenberg, 75, of Pontiac, formerly of Hillsboro and Jacksonville, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at ASTA Care Center in Pontiac. He was born Dec. 18, 1930, in Saunemin Township, the son of Emmons and Ruth Haile Isenberg Sr. He married Shay Hicks in 1956. He later married Susan Ashby. Mr. Isenberg graduated from Saunemin High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1948 to 1952 as a military police officer in Vienna, Austria, and was a member of the U.S. Army Overseas Basketball Team. He worked for the Wabash Railroad and was a U.S. postal carrier. He worked for the Illinois Department of Corrections for 33 years in Sheridan, Pontiac and Hillsboro and retired as a captain from the Jacksonville Correctional Center. He was a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in Pontiac and the Illinois High School Association and a former member of Pontiac Moose Lodge. He was a past president and life member of AFSCME and life member of VFW Post 886 and Aarvig Campbell American Legion Post 78, both in Pontiac. Survivors: daughter, JoAnn (husband, Mike) Dodson of Pontiac; four sons, David (wife, Hope) Isenberg of Ann Arbor, Mich., Brock (wife, Debbie) and Matt (wife, Judy) Isenberg, both of Pontiac, and Tim (wife, Cheryl) Isenberg of Taylorville; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, June (husband, Walt) Gray of Saginaw, Mich.; and brother, Terry (wife, Anna) Isenberg of Lenexa, Kan. His memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 1314 E. Indiana Ave., Pontiac, with the Rev. Beckie Linn Gregory officiating. Inurnment, with military honors, will follow the memorial service in Sunny Slope Cemetery, Saunemin. Friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Saunemin Grade School Athletic Department or the American Cancer Society.
